"that's not how farming works" is a thing I want to Post approximately 94% of the time I am presented with a Tweet that references agriculture in any way whatsoever
a few things to know about farming:

1. plants become Food when they are ready
2. the window of time between when a thing is Food and when it is a Biohazard is much shorter than you think
3. the places we can make lots of Food and where people can eat lots of Food are far apart
"why can we not donate those potatoes to the Food Bank!!!" you wail in despair, okay, yes, surely every Food Bank should have prepared for a very rare demand-failure bumper potato crop by building acres of refrigerated potato silos at the outskirts of every major metro area
and set aside a fund to pay caravans of tractor trailers to quickly evacuate the potatoes and spirit them several thousands of miles away, rapidly, "oh those keep for a month in my kitchen," that's because you don't have tons and tons of potatoes, you got a couple days in a truck
