CSS is so daunting to me and I’m tired of sucking at it.

What do you recommend for a seasoned developer that wants to spend a couple months and get good at CSS?
The “advanced beginner” stage of learning is a tough chasm to get over. It’s so tedious when you just want to fuckin DO STUFF and instead you are hunting and pecking on MDN and struggling to remember the sheer volume of syntactical soup.

“build stuff!” most certainly is the core answer to this predicament.

Performance tasks.

Disciplined regular practice of authentic well scope project based problem sets.

Crossing the fucking chasm 😬

This looks excellent 👇

This is being repeatedly recommended and I also remembered that I bought it last year.

Fact: buying courses does NOT help you get better 😬 https://twitter.com/cweekly/status/1253720270973669380?s=21 https://twitter.com/cweekly/status/1253720270973669380
I’m excited for this series because Julia is smart and discerning and also love the idea of getting into the MINDSET of problem solving with CSS. https://twitter.com/b0rk/status/1245391028795965442?s=21 https://twitter.com/b0rk/status/1245391028795965442

This course from Kevin on Scrimba came up several times.

Scrimba is an interesting platform that combines video with an interactive code editor. https://twitter.com/shivenigma/status/1253752862196117505?s=21 https://twitter.com/shivenigma/status/1253752862196117505
The project based learning of Frontend Mentor looks really awesome.

I like how they’ve coded each challenge with a skill level based on industry terminology. https://twitter.com/selbekk/status/1253732403845136387?s=21 https://twitter.com/selbekk/status/1253732403845136387
I’ve used sass/scss extensively and don’t plan to ever use the tool again. It has pitfalls and benefits but I’m mostly interested in using CSS and don’t want an extended feature set beyond what postcss surfaces.

Learn Layout is a really nice resource for “beyond the basics” css. https://learnlayout.com/
The Inverted Triangle CSS (ITCSS) Architecture from @csswizardry feels extremely pragmatic at first glance and compatible with how I work (css-in-js) https://twitter.com/brent_m_clark/status/1253827444605321228?s=21 https://twitter.com/brent_m_clark/status/1253827444605321228
