Found a use for the printer that they say is compatible with my computer (but isn't). Owl doorstop got a whole new view now!
For those following along tonight's diversion into seeing if I can get my @canonUKandIE printer to work, I tried using other canon drivers but the closest I got was a flashing printer light. Have relegated it back to doorstop.
And after trying to use the CUPS protocol directly (used generic, postscript and some other drivers) still no luck. Computer sees the thing, just no AirPrint option. No driver. Now bitten the bullet and upgrading my OS -dammit I want to know if this thing actually works at all!
Nope. Still not recognised as AirPlay printer. Have now let Canon know my consultancy fee so far for trying to troubleshoot their £29.99 printer is £1500.
OK crew. I'm bringing in @Apple since @CanonUKandIE said I should. I'm also onto the red wine now...
Just to review where we're at:
- I bought a £29.99 printer 3 weeks ago
- It arrived after 2 weeks, without the USB cable to connect it to computer. It has no wireless connectivity (to my surprise)
- Today the cable arrived. I still can't install.
- Now it's Apple's turn...
This IS the most boring thread ever. But it involves a lot of frustration, hummus, and wine.
I had such hopes. His name is Elton from @Apple - what a name! But he doesn't know either...
PS I've already confessed to him that I stress ate half a tub of hummus over this today. But he's still acting like a pro. Kudos, Elton.
OK final update for the evening. Apple boss Melissa confirms the printer does not, in fact, have AirPrint according to its own online spec and is not, in fact, compatible with either OSX 10.13 (which I was on) or 10.15 (which I upgraded to). @CanonUKandIE
And with that it's bedtime. And the printer is going back in its box. On Monday I hope @CanonUKandIE will either pay the £2500 consultancy fees for my time or - I know this is a stretch - ship me a printer that actually works. We shall see.
