This plan, initiated by Neoliberal @NYCMayor & pushed by Goldman Sachs-run @NYCEDC & Hudson Yards planner Vishaan Chakrabarti, is being pushed during crisis times as the thing that will save the working class & poor of NY. If you wanted to help, you would have saved NYCHA by now.
This vulture class circles & plans, waiting for a time to swoop in when people are most vulnerable & looking the other way. As Vishaan says, “This is part of why you do master planning...You don’t know something like this is going to happen. But it tees things up for the future.”
Vishaan Chakrabarti & other economic elites know in hard times money will be thrown at problems, like it is now, w.out much oversight or protest & they will be there to grab handfuls of cash for their own benefit. All they need to do is find a way to "sell it" to the public.
He suggested CV "might turn out to be good news for Sunnyside. 'There’s going to be a long-term unemployment problem that’s going to lead to a housing crisis that’s not a gentrification-driven housing crisis...It’s a poverty-driven housing crisis. We need to get ahead of that.'"
Wish we could believe him & his ilk, but fool me once and all that. Also, as the author says, his master plan is "so idealistic that it was almost unbelievable."
