Comic industry professionals, your patrons in no way require you to be of like-minded persuasion, political or otherwise. If fans come to you with a point or critique, it's because they care about your work and want to see it flourish.
So reach out to them if possible. Clarification goes a long way and you will almost certainly discover far more in common than different.
And comic fans, in the same way, if you have legitimate gripes or concerns, reach out. But that respect bit is a two-way street. Come to them, not at them, and if they are of integrity then they'll respond in kind, regardless of any personal differences.
Because at the end of the day, the minutiae of personal politics and whatever else holds little true weight, and what matters is the shared things that we love (comics/Star Wars/video games/etc.) and diversity of THOUGHT are naturally concomitant in the real world.
This thread came about because of exactly what I described above. I came to an industry professional with a sincere concern and they responded respectfully and we shared a great discourse. Not only do I still hold their work in high regard but also them as a human being.
