Day after #NFLDraft thoughts for the #49ers...

- Definitely thought both Wirfs & Lamb were on Lynch’s “6 foundational players” list.
- At that moment, I did think the pick was Wirfs, over Lamb, and Lynch would stand pat at #13.
- So of course that’s not what happened.

1
- Trading back to #14 (and giving up #245), for #117...by selling TB that you were taking Wirfs, or would deal with another team who wanted him...great move John, well done.
- By doing that trade, I thought the stage was set for Lamb.
- So of course that’s not what happened.

2
- If not Lamb, Kinlaw was my next choice, but I did think it would be Lamb.
- So of course it was Kinlaw, and it makes perfect sense for S.F.
- The recipe for the 49ers success was a deep & strong rotation at DL, and when injuries set in, their production dropped off big time.

3
- Buckner had to be replaced. Without him, the rest of the DLs production suffers.
- Getting a younger/cost controlled player, by trading Bucker, for #13, to draft his replacement (after acquiring a 4th) was solid GM/cap management.
- Kinlaw is a perfect fit for this team.

4
- Kinlaw had been discussed a lot for the Niners, and I preferred him over Brown.
- I did not think Kinlaw would be one of Lynch’s “6 foundational players”, but of course he was...look at what Lynch drafts high. Linemen. Thomas. McGlinchey. Bosa. He clearly values Lineman.

5
- Onto to #31. They’ve had plenty of #31 convos, they’re prepared for a trade back, or to stand pat. They are on cruise control for awhile.
- So enjoy the draft. See what teams do. Because there ain’t no way Lynch is trading up.
- So of course that’s exactly what happened.

6
- When the trade up to #25 was announced, I jumped out of my chair.
- I thought it was for a WR or OL. Reagor and Jefferson came off the board at #21 & #22. The WR position group had to be addressed.
- I thought it was Pittman or Ruiz.
- So of course that’s not what happened.

7
- Originally, Reagor & Pittman were my #31/Day 2 WR choices, but Reagor is gone. If Pittman, #25 is a stretch, but whatever. Get your guy.
- Never really considered Aiyuk. Checked his tape when the 1st round talk on him started. Was shocked to hear Kyle wanted him OVER Lamb.

8
- If Steve Smith says he’s your guy, he’s your guy.
- WR corps needed competition, period. You have Deebo, Bourne, & hope. Now you have a potential WR1 or 2, and competition for WR4-6. Insurance on Hurd & Taylor’s health as well, but roster spot competition more than anything.

9
- Onto Day 2. I expect to be able to just watch today, and see who will possibly be available for 156, 210, and 217.
- There’s no way Lynch will trade into Day 2.
- So of course...that’s exactly what‘s going to happen.
