I wanted to share with my hacker/tech friends some of the things I’ve been doing to keep my head clear. 1/9 #hackMentalHealth
I've been practicing "mental defragging". In the form of writing therapy. I write out my thoughts, get them all on paper. 2/9
I’ve been practicing “sanitizing inputs”. In the form of reducing negative influences on my mood (e.g.. Reduce social media influence, and I am mindful that I am on social media right now) 3/9
I’ve been practicing mindfulness, by putting “debug hooks” before some of my actions (emotional state or behavior like visiting SM) are heading towards a path of negativity. 4/9
I’ve been practicing improving my emotional state for positivity, when in one of these mental “debug hooks” of mindfulness, by reminding myself what I have to be appreciative of. Running my happy code. 5/9
When I find myself in a complex negative state, that requires more than thinking good thoughts. I seek documentation, I read, I learn and make a plan using proto-behaviors (psuedo-code) and make a plan to get out of that negative state. 6/9
If I have to, I will practice architecting new structures (mental modes, behaviors, habits) to allow me to abandon the old, defunct, mental model I may have. Much in the same way one would solve the issue of “technical debt”. 7/9
I use the word practice, to retrain a learner’s mentality. This is a crucial point, I have to do these things and can not believe I’ve conquered them, that is not the point. 8/9
Thank you for reading, maybe it helps you too. If you got this far looking for help, and would like to talk, vent, cry or question my intentions; DMs are open. 9/9 #weareallone #weareinthistogether #hackMentalHealth
