Stranded Brits: we’ve announced 52 flights so far, from 11 cities across India, and are working on more to get you all back home safe. I know those of you on waitlists are frustrated. I wanted to explain what’s involved in making each flight happen... 1/4
2/4 It’s a complex operation, first to arrange and secure clearances for flights while Indian airspace remains closed. The next step is to organise transport to pick you all up from different parts of this vast country, moving some of you up to 600km by road to airports.
3/4 Because this is happening under the world’s largest lockdown, we have to secure individual clearances for each person from multiple authorities - to allow you to travel huge distances, often crossing state borders, to reach airports safely.
4/4 And as you know, there are an awful lot of you! We’re working as fast as we can, identifying and prioritising as many of the most vulnerable as possible for each flight. More flights are coming. Please be patient a while longer while we do our best to get you home.
