I have now chatted to @EquityUK General Secretary candidate @paulwfleming about the future of #mentalhealth in our union & in our industry as a whole. Clear, confident ideas about taking this issue forward using the strengths of the union. [thread]
Having now spoken to both @paulwfleming & @SimonJCurtis69 I'm really excited about what the future holds for @EquityUK & members. The candidates are very different but both are passionate, switched on, and really inclusive in their thinking.
In recent months I've talked to a number of frustrated colleagues, some of whom have been so disolusioned they have actually left @EquityUK I have always believed that working without union representation makes an individual more vulnerable to mistreatment & weakens the industry.
But I have completely understood the depth of concerns, having signed an open letter about #mentalhealth myself after being genuinely distressed by the changes to how @EquityUK aproaches this life changing & sometimes life ending issue. (Open Letter here https://www.playingsane.org/open-letter-to-equity/)
The conversations I've had with these candidates makes me really hopeful about what the future holds. I'm not going to recommend either in particular, just that you vote. There will be digital hustings soon & both candidates are participating in other @EquityUK meetings.
Take part, ask questions, get to know these two individuals who could have such a huge impact on what we do. Our sector is already being hammered by events & there's likely to be worse to come. One of these people will be vital to how well we come out of it.
