It’s wild that whenever I read an article about low black voter turnout, it *never* mentions the census study stating that 40% of black nonvoters either weren’t interested or didn’t like the candidates or their issues in 2016. About 7% of the answers related to voter suppression
It’s almost like focusing exclusively on GOP malfeasance, Russia and facebook absolves the Democratic party from actually addressing black people’s conditions and concerns.
This is about the reasons *why* we may not vote, not merely our voting averages. In 2016, 21% of black nonvoters said they didn't vote bc they disliked the candidates or their issues: *6 times higher* than 2000 (3.5%) & over 3 times higher than 2004 (6.6%) https://twitter.com/BreyVanDeKamp/status/1253741113883713548?s=20
My point is not "Democrats=bad/everyone sucks" it's "party leaders who promote centrism when our people are experiencing extreme social & economic problems cannot be surprised when we don't vote for candidates who have either exacerbated or been unresponsive to those problems"
