Why does @NYCMayor say it’s an “all clear” if someone is discharged from a hospital? This may be a common public misperception but surely he has been briefed by health experts that sudden decompensation (even after symptoms seem to be improving) is a hallmark of #COVID19
Pinning all the blame on hospitals—at a time when they are fighting heroically for NYC—is something else. People need adequate monitoring in isolation hotels: full stop.
This statement is not quite true... @NYCHealthSystem is operating its own hotels that offer more medical care / monitoring but has not opened these beds for hospitals outside its system to use.
In the midst of all this mess, isolation hotels have not accepted discharges from hospitals of homeless patients requiring isolation all week. This leaves hospitals to admit everyone. Or for patients to grow frustrated and walk out.
Of course this is not simple. I’m glad it appears (I assume given pause in admissions) City is working on better hotel admission & monitoring protocols.
Last week (before the deaths) 500+ health professional sent @NYCMayor & others a letter expressing concerns including inadequate processes & communication with hospitals about hotels, and concerns about services in isolation hotels. https://healthandhousingconsortium.org/covid19/  (end)
