/ People have asked about the possibility of cabin fire and what we would do to deal with it in flight when there are only 2 pilots. The most important thing is to prevent it happening in the first place!
/ To minimise any risk when there are just 2 pilots all of the galley equipment (oven, chillers, bev makers etc) is isolated, the IFE turned off, cabin lighting set to the minimum level and even seat belt signs turned off to minimise any ignition sources
/ Toilet doors are restrained open to prevent hidden fires and lighting turned off in crew rest areas. We also conduct regular cabin patrols to ensure nothing untoward is going on. Finally NO cabin cargo is carried if there are only 2 pilots
/ If cabin cargo is carried then 2 additional cabin crew members are carried to ensure they can deal with any problems in the cabin and on longer flights allows some rest too with 1 crew member always on duty. Additionally cabin cargo conforms to normal cabin baggage rules
/ if in the worst case there was a fire in the cabin with only 2 pilots then the pilot discovering the fire would attempt to extinguish it with the normal emergency equipment whilst telling the other pilot to initiate a diversion to the nearest airport
/ Most likely the fire would be put out and the crew would decide whether to divert or continue the flight. In the very unlikely event that it could not be extinguished the pilots would protect themselves with oxygen masks and continue for an emergency landing and evacuation
