update: i am now at home making hummus (a thread??) https://twitter.com/mimilovesmoo/status/1253567009868009473
step 1: make tahini
- tahini is so expensive but it's actually really easy to make at home!! plus you can save on jar space if you only really need a few tablespoons at a time
step 1a: toast sesame seeds and grind
- toast seeds over low heat until it starts smelling nutty (i used 1/4 cup)
- it's too small quantity for a food processor but i do enjoy working out a bit by using a classic pestle, but if you do plan on making a lot then use what's easier
step 1b: add oils
- i start with 1/2 tsp sesame oil just to enhance the flavor
- then add 1 tsp of any neutral oil at a time, mixing in with the pestle* until you get the consistency you like (i used light olive oil)
- salt to taste as always!
* or a food processor
step 2: choose your beans
- this thread started because there were no chickpeas left at the grocery so now we're making hummus with a can containing all* the beans
- drain the water and wash off the caking agent they put in bc that shit's gross
