a LOT lot of people are replying that they didn’t even know the reposter wasn’t the OG artist. it didn’t occur to me that anyone would’ve thought that — but in hindsight, it’s rlly an easy mistake to make and it’s part of why reposting is so, SO shitty
i used to *be* a reposter. when i was, like, 15, had just gotten semi regular internet access and had a weird 3-week obsession w/ frozen. literally all i posted were frozen (and some anime) gifs/fan art until some v firm, kind anons took the time to explain why it was wrong
and once i got it, i wiped my entire blog - partially bc at that point i’d posted so many fucking gifs it wasn’t even worth trying to separate my og posts from the reposts T-T, and partially to make sure i couldn’t benefit at all from my reposts
i was 15, and had no understanding of online art etiquette. i was embarrassed. and angry, at first, and then i calmed down and thought abt how i’d feel if someone took my precious poems + stories and reposted any part of them w/out my permission, and my lil heart broke
i can’t imagine how hard it must be to have your work fully stolen and capitalised off to the level some do. i’ve had my art copied a few times, dealt w/ it quietly and that was stressful enough tht anything beyond it seems nightmarish
tl;dr — reposters, listen to the people trying to help you not be an asshole. it’ll save you so much guilt, and bring the artists you’re stealing from SO much joy.
