With rugby grounds around the world being used to combat the corona virus, lets take a look at Twickenham in 1939
Requisitioned by the War Office, the English national rugby ground became a Civil Defence Depot
Hospital beds were installed in the West Stand which became a decontamination centre to be used in the event of a chemical attack on London
Fire service equipment was housed under the South Terrace, later put into service during the blitz
The North Stand was used to store metal that would go to make bombs and aeroplanes
When the war ended in 1945, Twickenham re-opened for a series of matches known as the ‘Victory Internationals’
