All Victoria University students who live in halls of residence have just been informed via email they will be charged $150 per week during the period of Level 3 as a “placeholder fee”, even though the halls are empty and unstaffed.

This is despite the fact students aren’t even allowed to return to the halls under Level 3. There’s no power usage, hall catering, office staff or mail collection. VUW have stated that the fee is due to the fact “we continue to hold your room and the items you left there”.
