So in Hooton's latest column he claims Labour's front bench doesn't have any business experience. But does National? Lets find out.
No1 (but not for much longer): Simon Bridges. Lawyer and Crown prosecutor & intern in the House of Commons. No
No2: Paula Bennett: Student President, Electorate Agent for Murray McCully and recruitment consultant. No.
No3: Paul Goldsmith. Press Secretary for various politicians and author of histories for right wing figures and NZ businesses. No.
No4: Judith Collins. Now we all can name her husbands business activities, but of course she had nothing to do with that. She was another lawyer. So again, No.
No5: Todd McClay. Another bureaucrat. Worked in the European parliament and was Cook Island ambassador to the EU! No.
No6: Mark Mitchell. Finally a business person, who ran a very legal typical mom and pop business involving a private army at the height of the Iraq War. Business, yeah sure, but relevant to NZ business? No.
No7: Nikki Kaye. Policy Advisor to Bill English in 2002 (🤣🤣🤣) and policy officer for several London Council's, so that's an easy No.
No 8: Gerry Brownlee, infamous wordwork teacher, and may have been in the business of throwing people down stairs, but that doesn't count. No
No 9: Michael Woodhouse. Finally we're getting somewhere, after stints as an accountant, worked at Dunedin Hospital and ACC, before becoming CEO of Mercy Hospital. Yes!
No 10: Louise Upston. Finally one of those entrepreneurs we keep hearing National is full of. Dropped of law school at 19 to start a Management Consulting Firm. Sounds like a bad TV plot, but must be true. Yes!
So does National have business experience in their front bench, yes some. But only 2/10 MP's pass the test right-wingers set for others.
And that's about the same as Labour. But no one can match Daivd Parkers involvement with successful companies like Bliss and A2.
