I’ve been seeing lots of pick me Malays and of course Chinese people tweeting this kind of thing lately and imma put my thoughts in because I’m bored and because I can. (1/9) https://twitter.com/izzraimy/status/1253240684821135361
The tweets I’ve seen that are so called “racist” and “problematic” things about Chinese people are things like “oh look at them queuing up for bbt” , “it’s always them making a scene w frontline workers(food servers)” or that ambiguous tweet about Chinese people selling $30 (2/9)
McDs fish fillet on Carousell going like “y’all know what race is doing this 👀”. Here’s the thing, none of them tweets, are actually racist! Y’all (chinese) set up a culture revolving kiasuness and being money minded (one of you said it not me lol) (3/9)
And when people (mainly the minorities) point it out either as a joke or an observation, y’all wanna say sToP bEiNg RaCiSt, sToP bEiNg SeNsAtIvE, (4/9)
why everything Chinese chinese we majority what (pulls out stats on Chinese people being the majority that’s why all of them qued up for BBT, yeah I see u @itsLeonMarkcus lmfaoooo) (5/9)
Okay ya we get it you are annoyed. Here’s the catch baby, this is the microaggression we have faced since day 1, and it cannot be compared to pointing out that y’all have been clowning extra lot during this pandemic for some weird reason (6/9)
There is still a systematic racism prevalent in Singapore and for some reason the energy is never the same when there’s so much going on against brown people in Singapore. Yes, don’t fight fire with fire (saw another pick me malay tweet that) (7/9)
But the tweets that have been circulating about Chinese people as of lately is NOTHING compared to what brown people still have to face on a daily basis at work, school and in Singapore in general. They ain’t the same fire and will never be. That’s my take. (8/9)
Maybe there are tweets that is very discriminating towards the Chinese that I’ve not seen. So maybe I’m missing out on why there’s a rise of tweets about the minorities being “racist” to Chinese people. But if y’all stop acting like clowns then maybe we will stop pointing it out.
