ok so. here is a thread about what i have been referring to as the 'disneyboy game', so that the people on my tl who are sick of hearing about it & yet trying desperately to piece together what it's actually ABOUT from my fiftieth tweet containing the word 'catboy scar' can see
the plot of it is that you're sucked into another world, to an all male wizard school called night raven college- which despite the name seems to be a four year (?) high school. I Think. (there's a 20 year old who failed a grade twice & someone's Literal Fucking Parents
also enrolled as students so who knows. anyway this wizard school has a sorting...mirror, that sorts you into one of their dorms based on personality. but the problem is that you can't use magic & they can't get you back to your world, so in exchange for them not kicking you out
you have to act as the headmaster's personal errand runner, solving problems around the school (often caused by the students themselves) and in exchange you get to live in a kind of shitty abandoned dorm that no one lives in.
solving the problems around the school generally means 'find out which dorm's leader is doing something stupid and stop them.' but, when you catch them and stop their plots they're really upset about it, and the way that magic works in this world
is that the crystals everyone uses to cast magic darken from overuse or stress; and then when they become completely dark they turn into a monster and you have to fight them to turn them back to normal. (so every dorm leader so far has kind of doubled as a Monster Of The Week)
okay this is just for my tl so i'll get into the boys & skip what each dorm is Representative Of bc i think at least three of them had some acronym of 'smart' & i don't want to look it up
first off: riddle. people describe him as tsukasa + ciel mix, one of my other friends called him soft red tenn kujo, they're all not entirely wrong. he's The biggest nerd in the cast (which is an achievement when half your fucking cast is composed of people who are overachieving
in school to cope with childhood trauma). wrecks grading curves accidentally to the point that the person who spent time studying 100 years of their school's past tests to make a perfect cheat sheet had to admit defeat. kind of overbearing and a perfectionist & has kind of a
bad temper; hard to deal with because that's Exactly as insufferable as it sounds, but does legitimately care about helping other people learn & isn't deliberately Trying to cause problems unlike some other characters.
trey is his long-suffering vice dorm leader (all the vice dorm leaders are kind of long-suffering) and riddle's childhood friend; he doesn't necessarily like what riddle's doing but doesn't really step in to stop it. he's a great cook & pretty level headed although
he's not completely sweet through & through and does get fed up by the dumb ass bull shit he gets repeatedly dragged into. i would say more but i'm distracted by the fucking animal languages major
hearts dorm is actually pretty solid protagonists; i like all of them & i like their friendship & i don't find them aggressively boring like a lot of other protag groups tend to be, but i'll skip over magic trick dumbass, ex(?)-delinquent dumbass, and instagram clout chaser
because for now i want to talk about the catboy dorm.
leona is the 'leader' of it but he's exactly as useless as you would think someone who skipped so many classes they failed TWICE would be. he is extremely rich, extremely naturally magically powerful, and kind of just
aggressively unhelpful. he doesn't exactly even do any leading but he's pretty good at the Wizard Sport they all play which is one of his few good points. he kind of sucks and is an obnoxious shitty rich boy but everyone around him also kind of agrees he sucks
and three people are standing in line to steal his wallet so he's not like. an absolutely insufferable
character no matter how much i want to throw rocks at him.
i mean yes he is insufferable but like not intolerably so. he just moderately sucks and didn't get a redemption arc as such but everyone is stealing his wallet so it's fine
his second in command ruggie is the one behind everything & unfortunately kinda ends up doing everything for him too. kind of thinks he sucks but is also stealing his wallet & may be using him for social climbing. kind of shady himself but the two of them kinda deserve each other
jack is a dogboy. what the hell is a dogboy doing in catboy house? God knows. he's the only non-shady person there, though. kind of a goodboy & very hardworking and has kinda gotten dragged into our protagonist's group because of that. i love him
& now for the seafood mafia, who everyone including me kinda loves. they're actual mermaids taking human forms for land, unlike the catboys, who are just catboys. (except jack, who can turn into a wolf, but it's not his default form)
azul is the dorm leader, and the Second biggest nerd in the school. he studied 100 years worth of tests to make a cheat sheet so this should tell you how stiff competition is for the title of biggest nerd. kind of a shady businessman who deals with everyone
& can get you if you don't read the fine print, but in the end he is simply a nerd and like every other nerd here is surprisingly easy to bully. unfortunately for him the other people in his dorm love him very much and also enjoy tormenting nerds. their relationship is
a complicated one. or maybe that's just how they express affection.
jade is like....sebastian. that's really the only thing i need to say, he exudes the strange energy that comes from the hypercompetent sebastian butler archetype but is the comparatively most levelheaded one between their trio. still kind of a weirdo though
floyd is his twin (it's complicated) brother, who hates being compared to him. he just kind of does whatever the fuck he wants. kind of vaguely not-vaguely-murderous, talks about squeezing people way too much and in far too joyful a tone from a 13 foot long eel.
i'm starting to regret this thread already
eels unfortunately the bane of my life
