I wanted to start a thread:
With journalists seemingly starting to accept that the take over is happening they are shifting their focus on gleefully telling us we’re not going to be the next City or PSG. I don’t know enough about FFP (so some input is welcomed.)

So how does FFP work?
FFP was established by UEFA to make sure that football clubs were not spending more than they earned, regulations were also made in order to prevent clubs from over-spending across several seasons within a set budgetary framework.

The good news here is I’m pretty sure that we have not been spending anywhere near what we have been earning & therefore the room for growth in spend is significant. None of us are looking for City/PSG spend. I’d take Everton/West Ham spend ;)

I feel there are a number of areas not effected by FFP where for the last ten years we have been found wanting & can be dramatically improved with big money & can then hopefully improve our performances on the pitch: Manager, Training facilities, Scouting/Staff, Youth

Manager. Obvious but with Rafa the impact of having a world class manager is clear. Rafa aside this is not something MA has valued. The good news is that if the likes of Pep make 20m a year. An outlay of 10m + a year is both modest and achievable within FFP rulings.

Training facilities: I don’t think it takes a genius to know this is somewhere we are seriously lacking. We have paddling pools. The impact on injuries, fitness and also attracting players should mean that this will make a subtle, long term positive impact on the club

Scouts/Staff
The good news is you don’t have to spend massive to be a success. I have no doubt a long side a great manager we will see the quality of scouts and staff improve too. Replicating (don’t worry I’m not saying we be the next Dortmund) the likes of Dortmund.

Lastly, invest in a proper youth set up again and see great local talent come through. Rafa and Bruce have already shown that is possible as a result of necessity. I would love us to be able to nurture, only the very best breaking through...when they’re ready

In summary I’d take the media’s “don’t get too excited” narrative a whole heap more serious if we were coming from a positive place, where the club invested well, listened to fans, had ambition & wanted to regenerate the community. The didn’t, they didn’t for 13 years.
