I may as well go off about my theories again.

Okay, so we all know how magic has limits to their uses in battle, right? Because our bodies take physical damage when we overexert our magic stores? I have heard that different kinds of magic cause different ailments..
But I am only able to test for black and white magic. I have a few in mind that could aid my research, but that's for another time.
My first point is...is it possible to kill yourself by using magic too much? Or would your body collapse before reaching that point?
With white magic, there are a number of different recoils to overusing spells. Sometimes the muscle in the arms can wither away, sometimes it is just a simple extreme fatigue that takes two nights' worth of a nap to recover from. It differs from person to person.
But I have seen black magic leave scars on the arms and hands of casters. Especialy with lightning and fire magic. I typically keep to white magic or wind when pushed, so I have never had to worry about any of that. But I have seen soldiers with telltale wounds on their skin.
I'm not sure about dark magic... So I cannot say for certain. But I imagine it has similar drawbacks to black magic, like blemishing the skin or leaving wounds. It makes the most sense out of all three kinds. Which...leads me to my main topic.
Is magic the cause of demonic beasts? I understand crest stones are the catalysts, but the similarities in their behavior to magic seems all too coincidental. Use magic too much and you run the risk of near death injuries. Use a relic without a crest and you *die*.
It's safe to assume all relics hold the power to transform unmarked humans into monsters, but by what force? If not magic, what causes people to turn into grotesque beasts? One could say it is the wrath of the goddess... I have a hunch it may not be so simple.
[[The next few posts in this thread contain lore spoilers, as well as spoilers for the game in general. Please take caution not to read if you haven't played through both VW and SS for the full lore on the relics!]]
So, the relics look like bones. Right? And crests are stored in the blood. Right? And crest stones are where the curses originate when a demonic beast appears.....right??
All I'm saying is. What if. The relics....are made of...bones. Actual bones. I've studied several...
Amyr looks exactly like a jaw. It moves on its own like one, too. The Sword of the Creator appears to move and function like a spine. Areadbhar is just a fused hand of some form of creature. The others are jigsaw clumps of varying kinds of bones, fangs and claws.
Their designs make sense. Their weird jittery natures makes sense.
But then where did they come from? Were they from demonic beasts at some point? If so, how do they have such deep ties to the crests? It's almost like, whoever they were from, they were...
...the beginning of the crest they bear. It makes sense, for the most part... But there are five crests that do not have relics. Sure, they may have been lost to time, but records do not show any evidence there ever were relics of those present.
The five crests without relics are Macuil, Indech, Cethleann, Cichol and Seiros. Macuil and Indech are a bit of mysteries, as their deaths were recorded multiple times in the records I found, but the other three...while still prominent, their origins are obscured.
Each of the three have a special weapon meant to harness the crests, but nothing to the extent of a relic. They're normal weapons and shields with some form of spell cast over them.

I think it is because the bodies of the three original crest bearers...
...were never able to be turned into weapons. I don't know if everyone came to an agreement in their creation or if it were some demented plot, but one thing is obvious: Seiros, Cethleann and Cichol were different than the other crest bloodlines.
Cethleann was never said to have married nor borne children. And yet, here I am, with Cethleann's crest in my blood. There are so many holes in my theories, but I think I like it that way. There's still more to discover. I feel I am on the cusp of something....
...but it always seems to evade me at the last second. Wouldn't it be crazy if the saints were still alive, which is why relics were never made? Crazy to imagine. I know.
.......
I have my suspicions.

But alas, concrete proof always pointedly evades me...!
I will find the answers I seek. One day. For now, I'm taking a tea break. If you read all of this, thank you for listening to my rambling. People that listen to me drone on and on about pointless facts are very special to me.

What? Don't give me that look~
I mean it.
