You can read all the journal articles you want and have all degrees you want, but if you do not apply those knowledge to actual work in the field, what is the point? You cannot be a clinical psychologist on the basis lang ng naaral mo, you need practice. You need experience.
I remember my mentor telling me "you are only as good as your last patient/case." Expertise is not just about degrees but also on experience. Sadly we dont have formal clinical supervision/training pa. But it doesnt hurt to humble yourself & seek help from those with experience.
Back in the days, it was so frustrating to hear "you need to legitimize yourself". Para bang my opinion would not have merit just because I had no formal qualifications. But I learned na it was not about me not having degrees but was about professional experience.
You can memorize the DSM-5 and all AbPsych or PsyAssess or TOP books, but when you face real people with mental illness, it's so different from what you read. I learned that the hard way. I cried even on many times because I felt I was not competent enough for this.
10 years in practice and I still get afraid if I can really help a patient. 10 years and I still consult my mentors and profs on cases, I even ask help from my colleagues and juniors. Because that is how we truly learn.
I remember Doc Yayet saying "Pag MA student ka, ang yabang mo. Feeling mo alam mo lahat. Pag PhD student ka na that is when you realize that there is a lot that you do not know."
Integrity is not just about what you know but also on recognizing what you do not know and what you cannot do.
