I think most what I’ve been mulling over from the @travelmassive session last night was when i expanding on my 18-24 month before normalcy could return thing, one of the other speakers (he’s not on Twitter I think so can’t tag, VC guy) said, well yeah, but what happens next time?
And then went on to say need to move from contact to contactless. So for eg retina scans at immi instead of fingerprints, etc. suggesting that the planet won’t be able to shut down every time a plague hits. But so much “contactless” feeds into the surveillance economy.
I know it sounds trivial when others are struggling to put food on table, but govts will never pull this stuff back into box. Speaker used Hungary as an eg (I’m zero familiar with scene there) suggesting this will be a boon to right wing loon rulers. Hello Philippines/Thailand
When I think of that in a SEA context, where the shift to awful govts is increasingly the norm, is very concerning. People argue the Sg initiatives are benevolent but just for now, if even that. No real point to this thread other than to say a bit of a downer.
