I celebrate 25 years at @Sydney_Uni today. Lots of things have changed, although the stonefly mug from a conference in 1991 is still going strong. In the time-honoured tradition of sharing unwanted advice and reflections... 1/4

It turns out that academia makes you fatter and hairier. I know there are people that will say that this may be avoidable, but my long term study (n=1) is pretty conclusive. 2/4

Lots of people will advise you to think strategically about papers, grants and collaborators, others will tell you to enjoy the journey. I'm not really sure what works, but staring at the same sort of animals in publicity photos for about 25 years seems to be effective. 3/4

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey. It's been an interesting ride and it has been great to share it with you. I'm forever grateful for my family's love and support. But because we never get a photo where all 5 of us are smiling, here's me with our cats. 4/4
