So I'm catching up on Doctor Who, and since s11 I have had thoughts. I keep meaning to write them but these thoughts are bigger on the inside.

Anyway, here we go. *Excuse any typos bc my brain works faster than I can type or correct.
I'm a late Doctor Who-er. It took some time for me to fall in love w/this show bc I didn't get it.

And that's kind of a death knell for any show, at least any in the 21st century. You should be able to grasp what's going on and put the square peg into the square hole.
Police procedural. Cozy mystery. Contemporary sitcom comedy. Sci-fi suspense. Mockumentary. Etc. Etc.

There's no way you could sell Doctor Who as a new show in today's market. It spans over 50 years. It kills off the main character every few years.

That alone...
Yet it managed to take hold when Matt Smith was the lead actor and Steven Moffat was at helm.

And bc I've been in the fandom deep enough I know of every single complaint.

And that's kind of thing.
The show rebooted in 2005, and if not for that wonderful 9th Doctor or even Tenant, there would be no Matt Smith's 11th.

BUT there was a kind of fever with 11. A reset button was hit. Yet the show kept some of its origins.

And that's why, I think, the narrative is inconsistent.
You have a show that's campy, sometimes serious, often poignant and nutballs crazy.

Then you throw in something that will make misogyny foam at the mouth and what you get is an incredible show, actors doing their best work...and damn near radio silence.
If ever challenged, I could argue why 12 and Clara was one of the best iterations like a dissertation. I could even go on why we needed Bill Potts before the Doc could be a woman.

But the bottom line is Doctor Who became current, vital and changed w/the times ...
And that is a huge reason why you don't hear about being raved about anymore like the fever of 11th.

Doctor Who is no longer about a white man being clever and only a few epis about the casualties of that cost.
I mean, we have one of the most consistent storylines in its current run, the people who die are not easily forgotten, the cast is diverse as far as race and culture is concerned...

And nothing. There's no fever. Are there any thinkpieces? Deep delves?
