Okay, now that time has passed, and the latest season has started, I have Some Thoughts about this theory and how close I was.

#MagnusPod #Spoilers (potentially; definitely through episodes 164) https://twitter.com/eryne_erin/status/1148769711540310017
So, I was close. Like, really close. I got that the rituals were designed to fail, but I missed on the how/why.

BUT! What if I was still in the ballpark of "correct" in that the Entities didn't want to come through to our world in the first place?
Let's look at the recorders. They're what connect the Archivist to the Eye. So why do they keep showing up? Why do they keep recording Jon? Could it be they're trying to record, preserve, and replay information that Jon and Martin stumble across, but not yet understand?
And if the Entities were happy where they are now, then why would the Eye let Jon Know that there's even a hint of a possibility that the world could be returned to normal?
Perhaps the Entities were dragged to the Earthly dimension against their will, and are now making the best of a less than ideal situation. Perhaps they want Jon (and Martin!) to figure out a way to create and send them to a new space.
And how does Annabelle Cane figure into all of this? Jonalias thinks that she's helped his master plan come to fruition, but is that really so? Why did she try to contact Martin? Why send the lighter?
So far that lighter has only been used to light cigarettes and burn statements. Surely that's not it's only purpose in the show.
Anyways, we're only 4 episodes in, with 36 to go. I'm not sure if I'm going to expand on this theory, or if I'm going to just sit back and watch how everything unfolds.

Either way, I'll pin this tweet so that I can easily refer back to it when the story is complete.
I should add that the initial skeleton of this thread is based on the latter half of this animatic.
