A quarantine thread about identity, fanfiction, being a librarian, and Hermione Granger. Any of these pique your interest? Read on!
("quarantine" because it's been years since I regularly tweeted super personal reflection types of things. But here we are! At certain times of day while in quarantine, I've time and introspection to spare. So I'm letting it spill out here.)
So, I read fanfiction in my spare time. Like, really really read it. I am in very deep, though it wasn't until my mid-30s that I tumbled down the fanfic rabbit hole, and I am still very happily in deep. (I don't write, just read.)
There are two fandoms I read in what I'd call a committed way. For this thread I'll just talk about one of them: if you guessed Harry Potter, you are correct!
I grew up on the Harry Potter canon books. Early in the series, my best friend and fellow book nerd pointed out to me that Hermione Granger was basically my personality doppelganger.
It's funny to me now to share that Hermione really annoyed me in the early part of Book 1 (in response to which my friend gave me the deepest side-eye), but eventually I realized: yes, wow, I am basically Hermione Granger.
