I'm going to share the full text of the message I got about this girl's case. This is from the YC staff who are working on her case frantically tonight, trying to delay her deportation long enough for her appeal to move forward. #ProtectAMPV
"We are the child advocate for a 16yo girl who fled Honduras w/her mom after surviving physical/sexual abuse. They made it to the border last year, but CBP officials threw them in the MPP (“Remain in Mexico”) program rather than admit them while they sought asylum." #ProtectAMPV
"Mother and daughter lived in a tent on the streets of Matamoros, Mexico while they waited for their turn to appear in a tent court. They couldn’t find an attorney and eventually went to tent court unrepresented. They were denied asylum." #ProtectAMPV
Side note from me: if you are not a lawyer, it is nearly impossible to represent yourself in an immigration court or asylum hearing. Doesn't matter your story, doesn't matter if you 100% qualify for asylum. You cannot make it through the system without a lawyer. #ProtectAMPV

Her hearing w/the Board of Immigration Appeals is in 13 days. THIRTEEN DAYS. She is living in a children's detention facility right now that has plenty of space. All they have to do is let her stay there for 13 more days, & let her team of lawyers present her case. #ProtectAMPV

We have an entire TEAM of people who create safety plans for children who are being returned to home country, voluntarily or involuntarily. Bc of how this girl's case has been rushed, we weren't appointed in enough time to do this. What's the hurry @ICEgov? #ProtectAMPV
13 days. That's how short a time ICE needs to wait to deport AMPV in order to allow her lawyers to present her case to the Board of Immigration Appeals. In 13 days, we could also create a safety plan to protect her, if the BIA rules against her. #ProtectAMPV #StopHerDeportation
