thread: It feels like less than the least they could do, but Spotify has added a tip button to artists’ pages to help them with lost revenue due to COVID-19. This essentially puts the responsibility on the fans to support the artists directly. 1/5 https://open.spotify.com/artist/1lVadNivMiSkc2N6irhWdg?si=VhBism70SJ-NvPz8-u6O0Q
While Spotify is not taking a cut of these donations, they also are not contributing financially to this process. They haven’t altered their % pay structure to accommodate the circumstances of the pandemic which has ground all aspects of the music industry to a halt. 2/5
Just like unemployment insurance benefits (which I have applied for but havent received) and the economic stimulus check (which I also have not yet received nor have I been given any indication when I will) we are forced to endure living within these failed or failing systems 3/5
If just a fraction of my monthly Spotify listeners donated, I would be receiving more than I do in several years combined from streaming revenue. 4/5
There continue to be other, better, ways to support artists, but this seems to be the most direct right now if your chosen format of music consumption is streaming. 5/5 https://open.spotify.com/artist/1lVadNivMiSkc2N6irhWdg?si=kAGGKowyQMW3KtqzXjWVeg
