I was going to do my history thread about Queen Charlotte (England's Black Queen) BUT I think i'm going to do it on Warrior Queen Nzinga or as I affectionately called her Bad Gyal Zinga :)
Is it too late to do a history thread? Wait until tomorrow?
Ok so I am going to do a thread on Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba - The Warrior Queen of Angola
So the 1st thing you need to know is that Nzinga Bad from she bawn. She got her name because the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck & it was believed this meant she would be a great & powerful leader. Also her father was the King & mom a slave wife so she set
Her father loved her. She was the apple of his eye and he allowed her to sit & observe his cabinet meetings, war meetings and even carried her with him to war. She was trained as a warrior to fight alongside her father and was taught to read and write in Portuguese
Why Portuguese you might ask? Well this was around the time of the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade & the Portis were consolidating power & growing rapidly...
Any story w/ royalty MUST have badmind, jealousy and envy, and this story is no different. *Enter Ngola (ruler) Mbandi, Nzinga's brother*. He felt paranoid that Nzinga's son would grow & overthrow him SO in true Game of Thrones fashion he killed the baby & sterilized NZINGA
Understandably Nzinga fled. I mean ish was getting hot and she settled in Matamba until 1622 when her brother sent for her to help with the Portuguese as he was a dunce (DUH) & had been unable to manage the Portis properly. Nzinga say short run long ketch and agreed
Now when she reach the meeting with the Portuguese Governor they had chairs for them and a mat for her (outta order eeh man!?) Anywho she ordered her maid to pose as a chair and proceeded to negotiate
Nzinga was a fierce negotiator and was able to reach an agreement with the Porutuguese, which entailed the withdrawal of Portuguese troops from Ndongo and recognition of its sovereignty. In return, she agreed to open trade routes to the Portuguese.
