I devour theology books. I love philosophy. I love academia. But I’m seeing so many people overwhelming themselves trying to learn it all and yet have no pastoral insight whatsoever.
Do you know how to treat the vulnerable person who is way off on their doctrinal beliefs & not overwhelm them with your "knowledge"? Do you know how to contain your desire to spill everything you know & just share gradually, as the person is ready to endure?
So you know a lot about the faith because you have had the opportunity to learn or you have more time to read and study. Good! But stop using this knowledge of yours to overwhelm and put others down.
Learning is good. It is our duty. But when you stand before the Lord, judgement will be more severe. It's a trade-off. I still prefer to know. I choose to pursue knowledge. But there is nothing like studying & then getting on the ground with real ppl who want to learn, too.
