We lost the final cup u18W this season. We had 1/30 from 3p in that game. Our team has normally a good %. The opposite team defended in zone most of the time so many not contested shots. This situation allowed the opp team run many times and scored easily in fast breaks many pts.
We never missed so many shots so after this we realised our def transition was not good enough. We need it to go more into the detail adding some rules. How many players we want to go to the off reb? How many players running home? Is the shooter allowed to go to the off reb?
Player in the paint--> go off reb.
Player on the opp side --> go off reb.
Player on the wing --> go to the free throw
Player top --> home
player same side --> home
two in the paint --> ext only fill free throw, rest balance.
Lay ups --> two int, rest balance.
Shooter --> home BUT
If the shooter consider it is a short shot and she has many possibilities to grab the rebound, she can go to grab the rebound.

Player who are attacking the off rebound --> try to stop or slow down the first pass (JUST ONE, NO TWO)

Player closer to the ball --> stop the dribble.
When we arrived home we have 2 options.
Defence in tandem with two players (I call this action when one player is in front of the first player who arrived the paint).

When offence our court, we defence in tandem with the player who is behind running forward to stop the 1st pass
... and be in front of the player who received the ball on offence in one side. In that moment when the ball is in the air, the player who was in front needs to run back to get the position "home" protecting the basket.

Rule with two players on defence: ball and home.
And the other one is easier because we have three players at home so we make a triangle until the rest of the players are back. We defence in triangle with two players down and one up.
SO SO important. In these situations players need to open her arms to fill more space. We need to make believe the offence that there is no room for a pass.
In that final that I tweeted in the first tweet on this thread we received 27 points in fast breaks and 13 points after turnovers so 40/60 points (66,66%) came from these situations. We lost by three that final. After this we improved a lot our defensive transitions. A LOT.
And in one of our last games, the opp rival played so so well even better than us in many factors. We didn't lose any game in the league and here we were close. Important thing about this game: we only received ONE BASKET in fast break situation. Just two points in a whole game.
