Innovate? Build companies to make care better? Why bother?? “Frankly, many of these companies are small operations that will not be able to keep their promises. MyChart, on the other hand, isn’t going anywhere.” - OMA. 1/5
Whether it’s the digital health playbook for OHTs, cronyism that magically keeps antiquated tech front and centre, government totally incapable of meaningfully advancing health tech or doctors disincentivized to make their practices leap forward on a base of garbage EMR tech...
So much in Ontario prevents improvement. It maintains friction in the care we provide, makes care worse for patients, and tells those trying to change it - don’t bother, the establishment will get to it. On our terms, with our interpretation of urgency.
I’ve been in practice 7 yrs. I (with colleagues) built a small co and invested a lot of $ to improve referrals. We accomplished a lot and found zero official support in 4 yrs. The co is now dead, and my work is as fax-based and antiquated as it was on day 1. Like I did nothing.
So no, I don’t have patience or trust in whatever the talking heads at their bigwig institutions are saying. But let it be known how the little guy making changes will always lose to the politically protected. This is the story of health tech in Ontario. This quote says it all.
