Washington state has been on lockdown for almost two months(?) which means only essential jobs (mechanics, fast food restaurants and big retail chains i.e walmart/Fred Meyer etc.) are open. As someone working in that industry
I am affected, interacting with hundred of people everyday. My employer has not yet given us masks, which isn’t completely their fault if major retailers for these specific items keep selling out and are not mass producing. HOWEVER
That does not give anyone the right to treat me, my coworkers or ANYONE else in these industries to treat us like garbage and yell at us for something we cannot control. This may not be a big issue for everyone who sees this. But for me and my coworkers
this is an everyday occurrence. We are constantly told we should be wearing masks, which we don’t have access to as previously explained. We already wear gloves, change them constantly and wash our hands every 30 minutes, especially when we go in and out of the building.
Fast food employees are people too. I am a person. My coworkers are people. We all have feelings and we all have things we can’t control. It isn’t our fault we have corona but we have already taken so many precautions to avoid us AND CUSTOMERS from contracting it from our end.
As a country we are all affected by this, some of us have families and people we care about. People we come home to that we wouldn’t want to get this virus. So be nice to the fast food/retail employees. They don’t want this virus as much as you don’t.
And for the love of everything stay home if you don’t need to go outside. (And share this thread so this message can be heard because I know more people need to see & hear these words.) thank you, stay safe & stay healthy.
