Ok 2nd thread time. This time I will be explaining why I believe Christian scripture to be more beautiful than Vedic scripture. 1/25
This dispute will be similar to the last one because I believe both are extremely beautiful. To start, one of the things Hindus like to flex about the most is their absolute abundance of scriptures. I've not heard the actual numbers, but I imagine their collection of 2/25
scriptures is longer that the Bible+Book of Mormon+Pearl of Great Price+Doctorine and Covenants combined by several orders of magnitude. Their sacred texts vary widely from the absurdly huge Vedas, to the Upanishads, to the short and sweet Bhagavad Gita, to the Mahabharata 3/25
and much much more. This, for many, is enough to convince that they very clearly have the most beautiful collection of scripture in the world. But I myself have never valued quantity over quality. Upon hearing the raw scale of these works I got even more curious about 4/25
Vedic literature. After listening to hours of lectures from Dr. Frank Morales I decided to grab myself a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and read it. Now before I go further into this I would like to state that Bhagavad Gita is the only Hindu scripture I've read, so take my 5/25
opinion with a grain of salt from here on out. Anyway, I was blown away by this book regardless. I was astounded by it's utter wisdom and intricacies, the setting, the dialogues, the philosophy was all so fascinating to me. So much so that I asked my dad if I could give a 6/25
family home evening lesson about it. As I prepared the lesson I knew I had no shortage of content to discuss with my family, but decided to discuss one of the more simple concepts, the pairs of opposites and freeing yourself from it. As I gave this lesson, I began to 7/25
realize nobody in my family could really follow along except my dad. My two younger sisters and my mother were all completely lost, and this was one of the simpler lessons. At the end my mom and sisters admitted that they were all completely lost. My mom said she simply 8/25
doesn't think on the level that Bhagavad Gita is written. Then was when I realized, it legitemately does take a certain high iq individual to understand Vedic literature. 🧐 This is another thing that Hindus love to flex, that their scripture is incredibly in-depth. 9/25
So then... That's just it? These books are really only accessible to high IQers? And people who don't think on this level are left in the dust? That doesn't seem very beautiful to me. I largely consider myself to be anti-intellectual and think appealing to intellect 10/25
is super gay and not spiritual. I think God is this way too. God doesn't value high IQ over devotion, faith and love. There can be exceptionally low IQ people who are spiritual masters, and there are high IQ psychopaths who God would rather exalt a literal dog than. 11/25
As a matter of fact I will argue that having a high IQ correlates with pride and psychopathy which are not what God wants from his children. For all these reasons & more, I do not value intellect. On top of intellect being worthless to me, as time went on and I continued to 12/25
ponder on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, I began to feel it's beauty wear thin on me. As a matter of fact, it was at this point that I realized ALL philosophy wears thin on me. I've read what I think to be a somewhat respectable amount of philosophy, from Aristotle, 13/25
to Evola, to indeed the Bhagavad Gita and more. And it's all had the same effect on me; it gives me a sense of wonder and fascination, but after a few weeks to months I find myself bored of it. This was when the quote from Paul the apostle hit me. 14/25
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 15/25
Ok so basicly ,, philosophy is gay. As my dad would call it, "mental masturbation". People have criticized the Bible and Book of Mormon for having little to no philosophy, but this has become one of my favorite parts about them. There is no BS. It is straight and 16/25
to the point. Faith, love, charity. Rather than cluttering your mind with all sorts of meaningless "if, then's" and lectures, it's full of parables and lessons, stories and commandments. Now let's talk about why parables are better than philosophy. The first reason being 17/25
every time you read these parables in the Bible and Boon of Mormon, they have a brand new meaning. They have some really strange, mystical ability to stick to you and completely change its meaning to you to better help you through the current events in your life. 18/25
Sometimes when you reread it, a life-changing word will stick out to you that you swear wasn't even there before. The second reason why it is superior to Vedic literature ties in with 19/25
the story of my Bhagavad Gita lesson I gave to my family. You don't have to be some high IQ spiritual brainiac to get something out of the scriptures. No matter what level you think on, whether you ARE a spiritual brainiac or if it's baby's first Bible lesson, you can 20/25
get something out of these stories. That is what's truly beautiful to me about the Bible and the Book of Mormon, is their undoubtedly divine ability to shift and mold, and change meaning as you endure different trials, and gain new knowledge. The sheer simplicity of it 21/25
all is truly what gives it it's complexity. This is a common law I have noticed all around me lately, is that the world and the path home is truly simple. You don't need to write a 500 page essay to tell me what a tree is. A tree is a tree, and I can only know a tree via 22/25
a tree, not through some bench plate of a book about Nietzsche's gay "eternal return" theory. Upon realizing this, the whole world has become so much more beautiful to me. Funny how you only realize the true essence of nature when you stop trying to extrapolate and dissect 23/25
it. This is what philosophy does to you; extrapolates and dissects you until you can't even remember what it was you began the operation on. It only alienates you from the plain and simple truths. I would like to conclude this thread with one of my favorite BoM verses: 24/25
2 Nephi 31:3 For my soul delighteth in plainness; for after this manner doth the Lord God work among the children of men. For the Lord giveth light unto the understanding; for he speaketh unto men according to their language, unto their understanding. 25/25
