This morning I read Rachel Ward’s article on @CBCCalgary about Charity Mackrell, a licensed practical nurse at Olds Hospital who was no longer covered under our health care insurance plan. 1/5 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/pregnant-alberta-nurse-immigration-1.5534160">https://www.cbc.ca/news/cana...
Charity was no longer covered because she is a US citizen, waiting for her federal work permit to be renewed. To make matters worse, Charity and her husband are expecting a baby due in November. 2/5
Earlier today, I directed Alberta Health to find a solution for Charity and others in similar situations. 3/5
I’m happy to announce that effective today, Alberta Health has approved an extension to residents who are waiting on the federal government to renew their work permits. I spoke to Charity personally about an hour ago to give her the good news. 4/5
I want to thank Charity for bringing this issue to our attention both through @NathanCooperAB and through Rachel Ward @CBCCalgary. 5/5
