Some years ago I read something in an article. I don’t remember who exactly said it but what she said has pinched me for many many years. She said sth like..

“If the literary world was a family sat at a dinner table, Ghana would be the quiet sibling who hardly ever says a word.”
At the time i was enraged and thought “well this could be a splendid thing. The quiet ones hardly say a word but when the do, oooo when they do. Everyone keeps quiet and listens because they know rare gems would spew out” but deep within me I knew that wasn’t what she meant...
We have so many amazing writers who get zero support. They do everything themselves or have a small team that helps them put things together. Without them our literary space would be pretty much nonexistent.
This is not my fight chale. I’ve lost all energies to continue this thread. Maybe another day. Until then, #buyGhanaianbooks🇬🇭
Where? I’m not sure. Apart from a few online stores, we don’t have ONE properly run bookshop we can point to where we are guaranteed to find all we want
