Think there’s a good chance if a player growing up here in the US has Sergino Dest’s skillset he’s mainly played as a winger, not RB.

Defense is seen as “bad”. We struggle letting players be creative. He would be seen as too much of a risk. Parents might want him at wing etc....
Have seen something very similar with players who could project down the line as a good CB but play CM on their youth team because they can dictate the game more. The result? We have athletic and strong CB’s that often lack the intelligence, awareness and technique for high level
It’s funny, because I’ve seen talented attacking backs take wingers out of games with how much they got forward. Wingers have no energy to attack 1v1 with all the help they had to provide covering the overlap of the fullback. Attack really can be the best form of “defense”
