ABU BAKR (ra)
A mere 2 and a quarter years of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr& #39;s (ra) caliphate had lapsed and, in that short space of time after having crushed the proclaimers of prophethood, apostates, and deniers
of Zakah, new conquests had just commenced when death reached
his door.

of Zakah, new conquests had just commenced when death reached
his door.
Sayyidah Aishah (ra) says that one day when the climate was extremely cold, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr took a shower after which he developed a fever that kept its severity continuously for fifteen days.He was unable to attend the Masjid during that period.
Through his instructions, Sayyiduna & #39;Umar (ra) led the prayers in
his absences.
With the illness increasing on every passing day and any hope of recovery diminishing, he called for the sahabah
and consulted on his successor before putting forward Sayyiduna

Umar (ra)& #39;s name.
Sayyiduna & #39;Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf said, & #39;who would doubt Umar& #39;s competency? However, he is to an extent authoritarian.& #39;
Sayyiduna Uthman (ra) then said, & #39;His internal state is better than
his outward demeanour!& #39;

Some companions nevertheless dithered due to Umar& #39;s stern manner.
Thus,Sayyiduna Talbah(ra) on his visit to see Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (ra) protested, & #39;You intend to make Umar Caliph yet he was so stern in your presence. Only Allah knows how he will conduct affairs in the future!& #39;

& #39;He will have no choice but to soften down once the burden of successorship falls on him,& #39; replied, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr.
Another warned, & #39;You& #39;re electing Umar as your successor despite knowing his nature.

That sahabi continued, & #39;Mull over it, as you are set to meet Allah. What will you say there?& #39;
Abu Bakr (ra) replied, & #39;l will say, "O Allah, I have elected the finest from amongst your servants."
Abu Bakr (ra) replied, & #39;l will say, "O Allah, I have elected the finest from amongst your servants."
He appeased everyone with that statement and called Sayyiduna Uthman to dictate his resolution in relation to his successor.
Only a few words had been written when unconsciousness overtook him, so Sayyiduna Uthman added Sayyiduna Umar& #39;s name of his own volition.

Upon regaining consciousness after a while, he asked Sayyiduna Uthman to read the resolution out to him. When Sayyiduna Uthman read it out, he instinctively
shouted. & #39;Allah is the Greatest!& #39; and said, & #39;Allah reward you! You have written my exact wish.

he climbed to the upper floor and addressed those present,
& #39;I have not appointed my favourite or brother as Caliph, rather, I have chosen that person who is the finest from all of you;
All those present affirmed, & #39;We have heard and obeyed.& #39;

Salman al-Farsi (ra) visited him &
said, & #39;O Abu Bakr, advise me.& #39;
He said, & #39;Allah will conquer the world for you. Take from that only enough for the moment. Be warned! The person who prays Fajr salah is under Allah& #39;s promise. Let it not be that you
breach this promise &.....

RE: burial proceedings
& #39;Wash the cloth that is on my body at the moment and use it as a shroud with other cloths.& #39;
Aishah (ra) remarked, & #39;This is old, shrouding material should be new!& #39;
AB(ra): & #39;The living have more of a right than the dead to don new clothes.

As death approached, Aishah (ra) arrived & delivered the following poem:
"By your life,
When breathing becomes longer,
And the chest narrows,
Wealth is of no use to man."
"By your life,
When breathing becomes longer,
And the chest narrows,
Wealth is of no use to man."
On hearing these words, Abu Bakr (ra) removed the covering from his face and said, & #39;Do not say that, rather say, & #39;And the agony of death has come, for sure; that is what you were trying to escape.& #39;"
His daughter wept as death drew near. & #39;O daughter, don& #39;t cry,& #39; he said.
His daughter wept as death drew near. & #39;O daughter, don& #39;t cry,& #39; he said.
& #39;If I don& #39;t shed tears because of your demise then whose demise will bring tears to my eyes?& #39; she lamented.
& #39;The extraction of my soul right now is more beloved to me than extracting anyone else& #39;s soul to the extent that taking out the soul of a fly is not as beloved to me as taking out my own soul. (why do you cry so much when death is so beloved to me?).
He then asked, & #39;What day is it today?& #39;
When told it was Monday, he asked, & #39;On what day did the Prophet (saw) pass?& #39;
& #39;On Monday,& #39; he was told.
& #39;My desire then is to leave this world by night time.

His last wish was also fulfilled and he left this temporary abode on the night of Jumadat al-Thaniya,13 AH, aged 63, he chose the path of the eternal world.
To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return
