Reinventing Madonna’s 2012 album
𝐌𝐃𝐍𝐀: a thread

In 2012 Madonna released what would soon be referred to as her worst record; much of this is because of her labels influence in the making of the record that you can hear in it’s weird structure of party anthems and personal songs.

MDNA’s production in my opinion isnt what ruined the record, of course it had its influence but i also think that its record that was so messy that it overshadowed what part of it was trying to tell.
i decided to reimagine it in a more cohesive way for fun and to study it more.

1. 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐔𝐋 𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐑

I think since much of this record is about her divorce with Guy Ritchie,
i should reimagine it as a story of their relationship. i put this track as the first one cause it could represent how she fell in love while knowing the danger.

2. 𝐈’𝐌 𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃

At this point in the relationship theyre growing closer this song could be about their intimate moments. But it could also be about the relationship being toxic like a drug. In the moment she thinks “but that’s ok”.

3. 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐏𝐈𝐄𝐂𝐄

This track would represent the peak of their relationship, when she feels like nothing could break it.

4. 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄

After years something isnt going right in the relationship. it doesn’t feel the same anymore and shes noticing the cracks becoming deeper.

5. 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐓 - MDNA tour version

This track is often overlooked because of it’s production, but this version shows perfectly how its one Madge’s most heartbreaking songs.
She’s naked in front of the world talking about a love she now understands was only one-sided.

6. 𝐈 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐀 - MDNA tour version

I think the MDNA tour version would showcase a more drastic change in the album’s direction + the rock approach fits the post-divorce anger more. it also showcases some insecurities in the chorus between all the anger.

7. 𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐆

This fantasy revenge track is one of the best on MDNA. After acknowledging everything wrong in the relationship that’s all she wants.

8. 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃

After a while madonna acknowledges the good in the relationship and feels like she lost someone who challenged her. Even tho she won’t miss the relationship she learned something from it.

9. 𝐈 𝐅𝐔𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐔𝐏

She now knows she’s also responsible for the failed relationship and apologizes for what she did wrong.

10. 𝐈’𝐌 𝐀 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑

I’m a sinner is about Madonna’s catholic background and how she wants to be saved but not yet.

11. 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋 𝐆𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐃

No matter how things went she wants forgiveness and she’s finally free and happy again.

The album plays better this way in my opinion and feels more cohesive in sound and story telling.
It’s sad Madonna probably shelved the original concept she had but this album gets way too much hate and is misunderstood.
