This vote has taken me down memory lane, I thought I’d talk a bit about my @SInow covers.

My first SI Cover, making the 1964 Tokyo US Olympic Team as a High School Junior at 17.  I had only been running for 2 years.
My 2nd SI Cover showing how I had missed Jazy’s World Mile Record in June by 1/10 of a second.

Real men wore pink and blue back then. 😀
My 3rd SI cover was my 1st World Mile Record at 3:51.3. 1st American since Glenn Cunningham. My future wife Anne is in the crowd on the left.

My 4th SI cover was for SI Sportsman of the Year. Huge honor!

God gave me the talent. So many helped make it possible, especially Coach Bob Timmons and wife Pat.
My 5th SI cover. Tough year. Pulled hamstring, mono, 7,300 ft altitude.

Very honored to win Olympic 1,500M Silver Medal for the United States!
My 6th SI cover.

1971 Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Games Dream Mile finishing 2nd to Liquori. Huge crowd est at 40k plus. These were the years when you sought out the best competition and that was best for our sport!

My 7th SI cover. My favorite.

Much celebration with making my 3rd US Olympic Team. Final 400m 52 secs plus. Very ready for the Munich Olympics.
