Based on some of the reporter's questions at today's provincial press conference, there obviously needs to be a better understanding of the role of the @NBPharmacists - take a look at the NB Pharmacy Act. Their mandate is different than that of @PharmacistsNB
The New Brunswick College of Pharmacists is certainly not concerned with the profitability of pharmacies. Section 5(1) of the NB Pharmacy Act provides the objects of the College: https://www.gnb.ca/legis/bill/file/57/4/bill-43-e.htm
@NBPharmacists provided the directive to pharmacists to limit supply. Their mandate is to protect public health through regulation of profession @PharmacistsNB is The not-for-profit Association representing the professional interests of over 830 pharmacists. Different objects.
Section 15 of the Act states that Council (the College) shall make regulations that establish the conditions and requirements governing the sale of drugs in NB and s.49 states that pharmacists may supervise and manage drug distribution systems to maintain public safety.
The Government of NB just overruled the College's directive. That's absolutely something we should care about.
