For those curious what I did with my fellowship year...

I developed a survey that was sent to 620 college editors in chief to better understand the landscape of college newsrooms. I received more than 200 results and have analyzed those answers.
I believe in local journalism and American journalism.

But, it starts in college newsrooms. If we want to talk about diversity, data security, trust in the media — let's talk about how we can foster that in college newsrooms, too, not just professional newsrooms.
There are some college newsrooms doing innovative, incredible work. Some are compensating staff, specifically writers that wouldn't be able to be there without better-paying jobs so that college newsrooms can better reflect America. We NEED these voices in professional newsrooms.
My college newsroom experience at The Michigan Daily was incredible. I worked with amazing people that continue to do great work. Let's try to give every aspiring journalist that same opportunity regardless of what college newsroom in which they find themself.
