Some thoughts on 4 days seeing lots of recovering COVID-19 if I may be indulged. TBH its been really hard

Firstly, remember this is a biased view - the majority of people with COVID are still going home, or not coming to hospital

The below is based on pattern recognition and annecdote based medicine - it may well be completely wrong - the best answer to any COVID-19 question is "We simply don't know"

1. The rehab is going to need to be full on, active, and heavily resourced. It will involve lots of medicine (sodiums all over the place, albumins in peoples boots, concurrent bacteraemias, and lots of trachys

3/6
2. We are going to need all therapy disciplines, but especially SALTs @naomi_soar - lots of dysphagia, communication barriers. Nutrition is a big issue, lots of ortho-static instability (get your abdo binders out!) and very weak limbs and respiratory muscles @BreathePhysio

4/6
3. We will need lots of input (OT input akin to TBI) into the neuro-psychiatric sequalae and this may well be long term. There is delirium, and there is ongoing executive and attention deficits. There may well be PTSD and depression in the future @matthewrbroome

5/6
It will need to be a big cross disciplinary effort, not individual disciplines taking ownership. Its a brave new world, and I think the opportunities to get it right are exciting đź’Şand we must focus on these positives.

Bring it on

END (you'll be pleased to know!)
