No one has calculated how many lives a full lockdown will cost. Let me ask you this: how many cancer patients can't get timely diagnosis because they can't get hospital access? How many heart patients aren't getting timely intervention because hospitals are only taking....

Next, India loses 2500 children under five daily to malnutrition. How much does this number rise because the poor can't earn daily wages? Do we even have a model for how many lives are lost due to a lockdown? If you say zero, you're not living in reality.

How many deaths will India have if lockdown is removed completely? To understand this, imagine you had a giant slum in which people lived cheek by jowl in the hundreds of thousands and in which social distancing was impossible. Now imagine some are infected. Surely, a test case.

Now imagine you've had several weeks since the first infection in that slum. If the virus had to achieve Italian infectivity rates, a very high number of slum dwellers would be infected and you'd get lots of deaths.

Turns out we have such a test environment. It is called Dharavi. One of the world's biggest slums. It has one million people living. Social distancing in such a place is impossible with or without lockdown. Dharavi has had a sum total of 10 deaths so far.

The evidence is clear that the virus isn't spreading in India at the rate it has in Europe. People imagining the lockdown has stopped the spread aren't living in the real world. Italy's infections skyrocketed within two weeks and well before they could lockdown the country.

As for when the Indian Government will remove the lockdown, one characteristic feature of third world countries is that they tend to follow the first world. The day America is fully up and running, India will start ending the lockdown.

The fact that India far hotter and poorer than America is irrelevant to government babus who lose nothing. Children of sarkaari babus don't die of malnutrition. And come hell or high water, their salary is paid no matter what. For them, ending the lockdown when the West does....

Is easy. Why? Because the Indian middle class is obsessed with the West - even our so-called "nationalists" may pretend to dislike the West but their minds are as enslaved to the West as anyone else. The middle class will be comfortable when America is open and ends the lockdown.

If you said this has nothing to do with science, that is true. Science is irrelevant. India is in the middle of a mass psychosis. You can only break this mass psychosis with "confidence measures" - and Indians trust America. If its good for America, it is good for India.

So forget about temperatures, BCG vaccines and what not. Focus on America. Europe has started relaxing its lockdown. In the US, Georgia and Tennessee are ending theirs. Texas and Florida are opening up. By 30th April, most US states will end the lockdown. NY may be last - it'll..

End it by mid May. India will probably starting relaxing controls by July. As for the ones who die from this mass psychosis/insanity, that's just too bad. Just suck it up.
