1/ Our amazing managing editor ( @NBsisu) for @IntlStudiesRev ran a couple of quick reports that capture our numbers post-Covid (March 23-April 23) and compare them to our numbers from last year:
It looks like we've had 60 submissions in the post-Covid time frame. 33 M & 21F.

2/ 1 chose other and 5 declined to answer. Here are our numbers from our most recent annual report for comparison:
Post-covid: 61% M and 39% F
Last year: 67% M and 29% F
Post-covid: 61% M and 39% F
Last year: 67% M and 29% F
3/ For reviewers, we had 11 F and 24 M. This does not include 4 decline to answers.
4/ 3/11 F agreed to review: 27%
7/11 F decline to review: 64%
1/11 still pending
13/24 M agreed to review: 54%
10/24 M decline to review: 42%
1/24 still pending
7/11 F decline to review: 64%
1/11 still pending
13/24 M agreed to review: 54%
10/24 M decline to review: 42%
1/24 still pending
5/ Last year the female agreed percentage was 51.15% and the declined percentage was 48.85%. Similarly, last year the male agreed percentage was 68.88% and the declined percentage was 31.22%.
6/ So, take away points for me ( @AmandaMurdie):
(1) A completely understandable decline in reviewers accepting our review requests, with perhaps a steeper decline in females accepting review requests.
(1) A completely understandable decline in reviewers accepting our review requests, with perhaps a steeper decline in females accepting review requests.
7/ (2) In this limited window, it looks like our journal submission numbers for the post-COVID time period are similar/show slightly more gender equality than last year.
8/ Like everyone else, I’m completely supportive of any efforts we can take to ensure all faculty can thrive during this troubling time period.
9/ And, personally, as a tenured person with self-sufficient teens at home, this is a call for other journals to send me review requests. I can take them.
10/ We at @IntStudiesRev will try to do all we can to help provide a speedy and helpful review process. We hope you are as well as you can be during this trying time!
