In 2016, state Rep @MaryTinklerSC defeated longtime Charleston County Treasurer Andrew Smith by 966 votes. Smith did well in Mt. Pleasant and the barrier islands but Tinkler blew him out of the water in Charleston and North Charleston to score a narrow win.

On the same ballot, incumbent auditor @pteck won reelection against former schoolboard member Elizabeth Moffly by almost 13%. Tecklenburg was the highest Democratic vote getter in Charleston County in 2016. Interesting to note Moffly also ran on the Libertartian ticket.

Here's the vote comparison between Tinkler and Tecklenburg. Tecklenburg did better than Tinkler almost everywhere, with notable improvements in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley. Tinkler did better in North Charleston and out in Western Charleston County, around Adams Run.
