Following the wishes of lobbyists, legislators weakened worker compensation protections for people who are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. Wisconsin politicians feel more responsible for corporations than they do frontline workers.
First responders are putting their lives on the line every single day in order to help us. We should be trying to make their jobs easier, not actively putting their health and safety at risk in order to make others richer.
Lawmakers are forcing first responders to prove exactly by whom and when they are infected with the virus while on the job. These are people who interact with the public every single day in order to help others. This is an impossible ask, and our supposed leaders know that.
The legislators pushing this shameful change waited until the last minute to introduce it. They’re trying to skirt public scrutiny and input from other stakeholders.
This is what happens when you have a legislature full of politicians from districts manipulated to protect politicians from one party. Gerrymandering means they feel more accountable to their special interest donors than the people they are supposed to represent.
This legislature has proven time and again they’ll continue to sell out the people they’re supposed to represent in pursuit of a hyper-conservative ideology and special interests. We need to end gerrymandering and give their power back to Wisconsin’s voters.
