Genuinely amazing that the day after this guy's own newspaper started the process of furloughing a bunch of actual journalists, Kass churns out a column talking about how good "media elites" have it. https://twitter.com/John_Kass/status/1253311109928562690
As Chicago media has been chipped away at and sold for parts, as Pulitzer winners have been put out of work and newsrooms shuttered, John Kass keeps making bank with his generic-brand right-wing pundit schtick. The least deserving media person in this city remains standing.
And it's not that Kass just has bad opinions. He does, but that's not really the point. It's that Kass is a really terrible writer. Reading his columns is like... so you know the sites that steal text from news sites, translate them from one language and back into English?
The end result just ends up reading like someone went through and just selected the first listing from a thesaurus? All as a way to hide the fact that they're content farms that steal other people's work?
Kass is kind of like that in the sense that he's a defective facsimile of a more talented conservative columnist. The only reason he still seems to have a job at the Tribune and they haven't just replaced him with wire columns is that he uses local references in his work.
They need someone to say "Lightfoot and Pritzker bad!" and he fills that need
I'm someone who lives and breathes Chicago media. I know so many amazing and talented people who've dedicated their lives to telling this city's stories, rooting out corruption, and more. But every year, fewer of them are able to do those important jobs. Still, Kass remains.
