i know, i probably started bothering you but i want to explain this photo. this is from istanbul pride 2014??? and the signs say “let’s say we’re queer” in both turkish & kurdish . actually the word they used is a slur, since i’m not a queer male i won’t type it. +
+ the two men who’re holding hands are wearing glasess?? because the police was throwing pepper spray & artesian to the crowd. they did through a car?? called TOMA. it means, ’Intervention Vehicle against Social Incidents’ in english. +
+ so people started wearing glasses to protect themselves, they still wanted to celebrate pride. queer movement is a thing in turkey since 1977. it’s hard to do activisism in a country where people hardly talks about being queer at all. +
+ they know you exist, but they ignore to talk about it. everyone knows you talk and walk like them, living among them yet they refuse to talk about your struggles. today, april 23 was a holiday for children given by Atatürk. let’s not forget LGBTQ+ kids struggling in turkey. +
+ let’s stop ending kids’ education because they’re trans or ’too gay’ for their school. LGBTQ+ kids exist. #LGBTİCocuklarVardır
PS: i didn’t made this thread in turkish, cuz queer struggles are not national. it’s a global problem. everyone in the world struggles with it. every single kid gets bullied by het kids around them.
